12/6/2013 UPDATE MAJOR WINTER STORM: Significant accumulations of ice and sleet have been reported across the entire forecast area. Temperatures have dropped to the middle 20s with solid ice now forming on most roadways, especially bridges and overpasses. The road conditions will improve little today, if at all, as temperatures will not get out of the 20s. Numerous people are also with out power due to power lines snapping from the weight of the ice and trees limbs falling on them. Temperatures are expected to plunge into the single digits and teens across the area tonight and road surfaces will continue to solidify into a solid sheet of ice creating very dangerous conditions. It has been stressed that unless it is an emergency, try to stay off the roads. Another bout of light wintry precipitation, mainly in the form of sleet and snow will affect the area Saturday night through Sunday. Moisture will be starved with this second disturbance, thus any accumulations are expected to be light. However, any additional precipitation will only exacerbate icing conditions. Another shot of Arctic air is expected on Monday with models still forecasting some of the coldest air in nearly 20 years across the area...stay tuned!
